Things I’m Loving

One of my favourite ice sculptures from the Ottawa Winterlude festival. The weather had warmed up slightly last week so sadly a lot of the sculptures had melted and collapsed.

Exploring Chinatown in Ottawa for the first time, we’ll definitely be back to try out some of the restaurants and grab a bubbletea when the weather gets warmer. We also found some great street art which you can check out on my Instagram account.

Usually I make the small, fat, ‘American style’ pancakes throughout the year, but when Shrove Tuesday comes around I prefer to make them crepe style with lemon and sugar which makes it feel more like a treat.

I saw this make up bag on the ASOS website a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s by a brand called Skinnydip which I love, I think it’s so fun, plus the Pom Pom is detachable so perfect to put on your handbag. So when ASOS sent me a 10% off code for my birthday of course I went and ordered it, I’m really excited for it to arrive this week.

I love it when small independent shops make an effort to be creative with their window displays. This is a card shop down the road from me called The Village Quire.

Last Minute Halloween Ideas

Every year I say when I have my own home I will really enjoy making a big effort decorating my house for Halloween. Well this year I still don’t have a home to decorate, but that’s okay because I have Pinterest where I can store up all my ideas and one day I will finally get a chance to use them.

I’ve found Halloween has creeped up really fast this year and I still haven’t got around to carving the pumpkins Antony and I bought a couple of weeks ago. So, I thought I would put together a few Halloween ideas that don’t take too much effort and can look really effective even though they were created at the last minute.

All the sources for these images can be found on my Pinterest account, click on the board named ‘Halloween’ and there you can also find some more ideas that are not shown below.

Happy Canada Day!

I wasn’t sure if I should even bother uploading this post to my blog since it’s so old now. The lateness is due to the fact that I’ve been having big issues with my wordpress app and uploading photos, it’s been constantly crashing and I haven’t been able to do anything but sit and wait for WordPress to fix the problem.

This was suppose to go up on July 1st, it’s now September 16th! But oh well, life doesn’t always go to plan, and I quite like the photos so here’s the post anyway…

This is the first time I’ve been in the capital for Canada Day and we were very unlucky with the weather, apparently it was the first time it has rained on Canada Day in 10 years, yay! So the flyover was cancelled and it was pretty wet and muddy everywhere but that didn’t seem to dampen most people’s spirits.

The buses were free which was a bonus and as were most of the museums and galleries, so we headed downtown and firstly visited the Canadian War Museum which neither Antony or myself had been to before and then walked to Parliment Hill to join the crowds and celebrations.

I’ve added a few Canadian themed photos below.

This ‘Canada’ banner was such a great find from dollarama for $1.50       Rosie getting into Canadian spirit with her maple leaf neckscarf   Music on stage outside Parliament I decided to make a red and white themed dessert so I chose a cherry cheesecake (recipe found here)

Chocolate chip cookies with dark chocolate and crushed peppermint candy canes on the top. I made 90 of these for Antony’s mums cookie swap and I was really pleased with how they turned out

So many beautifully illustrated children’s books available at the moment, how could you ever choose which ones to buy. I found these two editions of Peter Pan in Chapters

Roots snow globe at Antony’s parents house. I’m so jealous I didn’t see this when it was available in the Roots store

My early Christmas present to Antony, taking him to see his first Toronto Raptors Basketball game and they won!

It doesn’t look much from the outside but I’ve been dying to visit this store in Toronto and I’ve been eyeing up a few things on their website. I bought this Macaron ornament which was on sale and I got this Onesie for Antony for Christmas (his choice not mine)

Blog post about the Drake General Store to come soon

First attempt at making muesli. It was ridiculously simple to do, just weigh the ingredients and mix them together in a container, no baking or cooking involved
