One year anniversary

Antony and I have just celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary. Since Antony was working during the day we didn’t do much to mark the occasion, but we did exchange cards and go out for dinner and dessert in the evening. I thought it would still be nice to share with you some photos from the day.

If you missed it or you’re interested in checking out the photos from our New England wedding you can see the blog post here. I also did some posts on our honeymoon/road trip through Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine which you can check out here, here, here, here, and finally here.

A little message my mum drew and emailed to me on the morning of our anniversary

The cards Antony and I gave to each other, which I think sums us up pretty well. I also made him this origami bird because the symbol for 1 year of marriage is paper

We went to an Italian restaurant for dinner called Grazie, and even though we were really full we were so desperate to try Sweet Jesus that had just opened in Midtown that we managed to squeeze in some soft serve ice cream for dessert

I had the Cookies Cookies Cookies & Cream and Antony had the Rocky Road Rage, I think I preferred his ice cream to mine, but looking at this menu again I can see several other flavours calling my name so I’m sure we’ll be back

Antony fines it very hard to not eat the food until I’ve taken a photo, as you can see he’s already digging in. We both got the mini size which I think was big enough, and Antony had his in a cone and I chose a cup

We don’t really drink champagne which is why I only bought a small bottle but I thought it would be nice to do something traditional and a bit fancy, plus I really wanted to use these new glasses I bought from the Cocktail Emporium

This is part of the wedding gift my sister gave us, rather than just having the photos printed and sticking them in an album ourselves she thought it would be nice to have them professionally printed in a book. We used the company Artifact Uprising and I spent two days choosing the photos and text, and creating the layouts of each page. I think it was well worth the extra effort and we are so pleased with how it turned out

Heres some of the pages from inside. You can choose whether you want a full page image or a couple of smaller images together. If you’d like some more inspiration and examples of what you can create go to their Instagram account

And the award goes too…

I love award season and probably my favourite part is waiting for the stars to arrive and seeing what beautiful dresses the women have chosen to wear. To me Cate Blanchett and Kate Bosworth rarely ever choose a bad outfit and this year at the Oscars was no different. Last year I remember not being particularly wowed by what I saw on the red carpet but this year I felt like doing a blog post about it because I want to document all my favourite looks from the event.

Also, I wanted to add that Antony and I filled out an Oscar ballot with our predictions of who we thought would win, and I won with the most correct answers whoop!

A Birthday Teese

Sunday was my 28th birthday, which seems crazy to me because I still think I’m 25. By a complete stroke of luck I found out that world famous burlesque artist Dita Von Teese would be performing in Montreal on my birthday, and knowing that I’ve been a big fan of hers for years Antony bought us tickets to see her show. It was a dream come true and she was as amazing as I imagined she would be. We weren’t allowed to take any photos but I thought I’d share a few of my favourite things from the day. It’s become a bit of a tradition for my mum to draw me a little birthday message when I’m away from home and email it to me on the morning of my birthdayA couple of my favourite cards, the left one is from Antony, I think watching a lot of Downton Abbey recently has had an influence on himWhen it’s your birthday you’re allowed to choose whatever food you want for dinner, so of course I chose chocolate. We went to a restaurant called Cacao which I’d seen amazing photos of on Instagram. Antony and I got a sharing platter which was a bit of everything (yes that’s chocolate pizza, waffles and caramelized bananas) and as you can imagine we couldn’t finish it all.The rest of our meal – chocolate fondue and even our own little fire to toast the marshmallows Inside the Olympia Theatre waiting for the show to startThe only photo I got of Dita right at the end of the show when she finished her famous martini glass routineSo happy with my birthday freebie from Sephora this year, and I received a Sephora gift card from Antony’s parents which I look forward to spending

Things I’m Loving

One of my favourite ice sculptures from the Ottawa Winterlude festival. The weather had warmed up slightly last week so sadly a lot of the sculptures had melted and collapsed.

Exploring Chinatown in Ottawa for the first time, we’ll definitely be back to try out some of the restaurants and grab a bubbletea when the weather gets warmer. We also found some great street art which you can check out on my Instagram account.

Usually I make the small, fat, ‘American style’ pancakes throughout the year, but when Shrove Tuesday comes around I prefer to make them crepe style with lemon and sugar which makes it feel more like a treat.

I saw this make up bag on the ASOS website a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s by a brand called Skinnydip which I love, I think it’s so fun, plus the Pom Pom is detachable so perfect to put on your handbag. So when ASOS sent me a 10% off code for my birthday of course I went and ordered it, I’m really excited for it to arrive this week.

I love it when small independent shops make an effort to be creative with their window displays. This is a card shop down the road from me called The Village Quire.

This may look like a Valentine’s gift guide…
